Inspiration of the Year

Tectre's Managing Director, Gillian Arnold, wins the 'Inspiration of the Year' award at the 2012 Everywoman in Technology Awards.

Tectre's Managing Director, Gillian Arnold was awarded the Everywoman in Technology 'Inspiration of the Year' award at the Savoy, London.  The winning finalists were chosen by a panel of esteemed judges, from the industry, for demonstrating excellence within their field and acting as role models for future generations.

This second annual  Everywoman in Technology Awards showcases inspirational women in the technology industry.  Everywoman, the UK's largest female business community, supports women in business and these awards demonstrate that careers in IT can be enormously successful and enjoyable for women.

The event, at the Savoy, was hosted by Suzi Perry of the Gadget Show who said about Gillian:

"Gillian worked at IBM for over 20 years before setting up Tectre, an IT services and staffing company in 2010.  She is passionate about supporting and encouraging women in technology, has created a Women's Network, chaired the Women in IT Forum for Intellect and sits on the board of BCS Women.

Our Judges were impressed that for the past 15 years, Gillian has tirelessly devoted over a day a week to supporting women within the industry through teaching, mentoring, speaking at events and at schools, as well as advising on the Open University course for Women in IT Returners - the list is endless."

The 'Inspiration of the Year' award was sponsored by ebay, the world's largest on-line marketplace with more than 94 million active users globally. Annemie Ross, Global Head of People Innovation. ebay, commented "ebay is pleased to be sponsoring the 'Inspiration of the Year' award.  By encouraging a creative and diverse work environment we aim to empower both men and women to feel challenged and motivated in their careers, so we can grow and retain valuable talent."

In conversation with the team at the British Computer Society (BCS), Gillian said; "I am completely overwhelmed to be in receipt of the Inspiration of The Year award.  Having met all of the finalists across all categories it was a great honour to be nominated - so to win is just fantastic.  The Everywoman Awards in Technology are a brilliant way to celebrate the extraordinary contribution from women in the industry and to encourage more to consider a career in IT."
